Bilingual Master Compost Certification Course: 6-week program for Spanish-speaking Sunset Park residents to gain exposure and hands-on experience in composting while learning how to talk about compost in English. 

The Master Composter Certificate Course educates and empowers New Yorkers to get involved in community composting via education, outreach, advocacy, and more. The program is a revision of the NYC Compost Project’s certificate course, run from 2000-2024 by the Department of Sanitation in partnership with the City Botanic Gardens and community organizations.  

On completing the course, students will be able to:  

  • Provide expert advice to community composting sites. 

  • Set up and manage a community composting operation. 

  • Understand and act on the relationship between soil health and compost in support of food sovereignty and community resilience initiatives. 

  • network and help others make connections within the NYC compost eco-system.  

  • provide compost education and advocacy to and for their communities. 

Requirements 

  • 6 Sessions 

  • 9 service hours 

  • 2 field trips (included in the 6 sessions)
