Join us Wednesday, August 12 at 7 PM for a signing and conversation with Julio Anta, author of the hit series Beast of Borikén (art by Daniel Lirizarri) — a folkloric, contemporary tale of Puerto Rican resistance to neo-colonial invasion, with an angry af chupacabra on the case.
Julio will be joined by activists Gala and Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of UPROSE for a discussion of present-day resistance to ESCENCIA, a proposed luxury hotel by the Reuben Brothers set to privatize beachfront land in Cabo Rojo — displacing Boricuas under the guise of economic benefit while threatening Puerto Rico's sacred beaches and ecosystems.
Free Food Provided, Free to attend at UPROSE, the longest-running Puerto Rican cultural nonprofit in Brooklyn. Beast of Borikén no. 1 and 2 will be available for sale and signed by Julio. Food will be provided.
